FREEDOM FIGHTERS STRIVING TO
The BuskAid team is the core heads behind the building of this massive event in Waterford City. All hailing from the Arts community in the city, they used their different strengths to build a festival that would not only last, but change the way we look at homelessness.
TADHG WILLIAMS: MUSICIAN, ACTIVIST, WRITER, FOUNDER
Tadhg Williams is a musician, writer and campaigner from Waterford and is the founder of BuskAid. He has been involved in numerous campaigns over the last few years including the Save Waterford campaign and the YesEquality campaign. As a writer and musician, his work has gained praise from the likes of Stephen James Smith and has performed on the Vicar Street stage with Glen Hansard. He enjoys Guinness, late '90s British romcoms and watching Waterford FC.
With the seriousness of the homelessness situation in Ireland rising, in December 2016 he founded BuskAid as a means of raising money and increasing awareness of the homelessness situation in Waterford. He is currently studying History at Trinity College Dublin and shaved his head prior to BuskAid 2019. Something he hasn't recovered from since.
ANNA JORDAN: WRITER, PUBLICAN, ACTIVIST, COORDINATOR
Anna is a local writing facilitator, writer, publicans daughter, Shine Discovery and Tinteán Housing Association arts volunteer, mother and founder of ModWords. Contributing massively to the Waterford writing scene over the last number of years, many of the city's writers would credit her with re-imagining the scene and making it as accessible as possible. Having been heavily involved in the Waterford Repeal the 8th campaign she is no stranger to social activism. She doesn't have time for hobbies and is known locally as 'yer wan that does the writing, Andy Jordan's daughter.'
Anna is one of the co-founders of BuskAid having come on board in the first year when Tadhg admitted he hadn't a clue how to organise something. Tadhg praises Anna's existence every moment of every day.
Derek Flynn is a writer and musician from Waterford, and one of the co-founders of BuskAid. As a musician, Derek was involved in the first #TwitterSingle, which raised funds for Holles Street Hospital, and was the organiser of the #Repealthe8th song, “Don’t Give Up”. He has written and published seven novels to date, many of which are murder mysteries. He's a bit twisted when it comes to that kind of thing.
Having busked on the streets of Waterford for a number of years, Derek had seen firsthand the effects of homelessness on the city, and was only too happy to help when Tadhg suggested organising the first BuskAid in 2016. Derek has significantly more hair than Tadhg which he calls his "luscious locks" and has written more books than Tadhg has gotten the shift.
DEREK FLYNN: MUSICIAN, AUTHOR, MUSICAL COORDINATOR
Michelle is a Waterford woman (via Wicklow) and graduated with a degree in Design (Visual Communications) from WIT. Having served as President of WIT Students Union and USI Vice President for Campaigns she is no stranger to social activism. Known for her remarkable organisation skills and beaming smile, she enjoys nothing more than shouting through megaphones, roaming art galleries and eating cheese.
Michelle came on board with BuskAid in 2018 firstly, as our social media coordinator and moving to take up more of a public relations role, anything you see in the news about us probably came from her. She's also very good at making fancy graphics. And we like fancy graphics.
MICHELLE BYRNE: ACTIVIST, MEDIA COORDINATOR, DESIGNER
Eddy Blake is a musician (well, a drummer), promoter and all round good guy originally from Kilkenny but plying his trade in Waterford City. Having studied music in WIT, Eddy made up part of the band Anna-Liese before going on to drum for several other projects. In 2017 he established Viking Promotions with a view to developing and enhancing the live original music scene in Waterford City. He is excellent at pulling faces in photos and doing awkward dances.
Rebecca Cappuccini is a social media guru, promoter and radio presenter. With a love for all things music and a passion for live music especially, Rebecca joined the Viking Promotions team in 2019. She has an addiction to Arch coffee and is a fan of novelty Batman jumpers.
